Spanish Government Proposes Constitutional Reform on Women’s Abortion Rights

The Cabinet has approved a draft reform of Article forty-three of the Spanish Constitution to ensure women’s right to voluntary termination of pregnancy.

Minister Ana Redondo stated this will strengthen public health services and guarantee women’s rights in the face of a rising conservative backlash.

The vote on the constitutional reform will require a three-fifths majority in both Chambers of Parliament, with the possibility of a referendum if requested by a significant number of parliamentarians.
