Policia Nacional have uncovered a major social security fraud network in Cádiz province, involving the use of fictitious companies.
The investigation, carried out in cooperation with the General Treasury of Social Security, has led to 16 arrests, with four more people under investigation.
Officers say the group created companies that existed only on paper, allowing individuals to be falsely registered as employees in order to claim benefits and subsidies they were not entitled to.
The alleged fraud is estimated to have caused losses of around half a million euros to public funds.
