The President of the Generalitat of Catalonia, Salvador Illa, will remain in intensive care for at least another day as a precaution, as doctors continue to refine his diagnosis.
Illa was admitted to hospital in Barcelona after experiencing muscle pain and weakness in his legs.
Medical teams say the most serious conditions have been ruled out and believe he may be suffering from a rare inflammatory reaction, possibly linked to an infection.
His condition is described as stable.
